Toyota has refined its GR Corolla hot hatchback for the 2025 model year, and while the interior looks largely the same, there's one notable difference: the gearshift for a new optional eight-speed automatic transmission.
The new eight-speed automatic gearbox costs an extra $2000 versus the six-speed manual transmission, which remains standard fare.
For 2025, Toyota added a new Premium Plus trim that brings a head-up display, a forged carbon-fiber roof, and synthetic-leather-trimmed seats with red stitching, along with content from the Premium trim like heated front seats.
GR Corollas with the automatic transmission also gain adaptive cruise control and Proactive Driving Assist, which lightly feeds in braking and steering inputs to maintain a safe distance to pedestrians and other road users.
The automatic gearbox can be left to its own devices or shifted via plastic paddles mounted to the back of the steering wheel.
As with the 2024 models, the GR Corolla features a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster that can display boost pressure and a g meter.
The eight-speed automatic, like the manual gearbox, has closely spaced gears that make for an engaging experience when driving spiritedly.
The 8.0-inch central touchscreen also carries over unchanged from the 2024 model.

Toyota also changed the torque split function for the all-wheel-drive system, with the 60:40 mode being called Normal, the 50:50 setting becoming Gravel, and a new Track mode varying between a 60:40 and 30:70 split based on the car's behavior.
