Kids sometimes do the darndest things, like an 11-year-old who stole his mom’s car, then crashed it into a semi-truck. This is the sort of thing that tests the mettle of a parent. We’re really curious what kind of punishment this boy faced once he was home and behind closed doors with his mommy and daddy.

Police in Louisiana find a stolen sixth gen Camaro floating in a river.

The kid, who lives in Fresno, California, took his mom’s Ford Explorer by just lifting the key fob when she wasn’t paying attention. He didn’t take the SUV to run away or even just for a visit at the 7/11 for some snacks.

Instead, the 10-year-old just wanted some cheap thrills in his mother’s vehicle. That’s right, he took the Explorer out joyriding, like what we see with other car thieves, some of whom are even younger than this kid.

But taking your mom’s SUV is just so much worse than stealing a stranger’s, which is still really bad.

Probably because he’s not a good driver, the kid ended up crashing into a semi-truck. Thankfully, the damage to the front end of the Explorer wasn’t too bad, probably because he wasn’t driving fast at the time. Still, we bet the body shop is going to charge a pretty penny for the work.

And we bet the insurance company has fought paying anything out for the damage.

Now here’s the kicker: when police showed up on the scene, the 10-year-old boy told officers a box truck hit the Ford, then took off. In other words, cornered with the consequences of his poor actions, he lied.

We know this is common behavior for kids, but we really wonder what kind of discipline he faces at home when he misbehaves. Maybe his parents are great, enforcing good consequences, but it’s also possible they’ve cultivated this attitude, even unintentionally by being overly indulgent.

Hopefully the kid learned his lesson.
