Murder Suspect Lists His Car On Facebook Marketplace

We’ve seen some dumb criminals over the years, but listing your car on Facebook Marketplace after you used it to kill a child in a random shooting is one of the dumber things we’ve witnessed. That’s exactly what happened in Albuquerque, New Mexico say police, who located the vehicle before it could be sold online.

A stolen classic car was recovered six months later.

The victim, a 13-year-old who was riding in the downtown area with his friends a couple of months ago, reportedly wasn’t doing anything to provoke the attack. A homicide detective assigned to the case said he was shaken by the fact such a young kid was so senselessly murdered.

However, the suspects seemingly just disappeared into thin air. There was no connection between the shooter and the victim and all the real evidence on hand were some grainy images of the suspect vehicle captured by surveillance cameras. One would think some business in Albuquerque would have a camera capable of 4K recording, but we guess that’s not the case.

Unfortunately, this meant no license plate. If you look closely at the images we’ve included from a KRQE report, the very ones the homicide detective studied, you can tell the vehicle is a newer black Lexus IS. But there are a lot of those in Albuquerque, so that wasn’t enough to narrow down a manageable list of suspects.

Desperate, the detective started trolling Facebook Marketplace, hopeful he would find the vehicle. It was a long shot but miraculously it seems to have paid off. Knowing who the owner of the Lexus is, police obtained a search warrant for his phone and found he was in the area of the shooting on that fateful night in August.

We can understand why someone coldhearted enough to shoot a kid would want to dump evidence quickly, but listing the vehicle used in the crime on Facebook Marketplace seems incredibly dumb. Thankfully the suspect did that, handing that key component of the case over to police.
