Women are having their 'bra bulge' removed and its a kick in the teeth for the body positive movement
In depressing news of the day women are apparently getting their ‘bra bulge’ removed.
Just when you think the Body Positive movement is finally having a, well, positive effect. Lingerie campaigns using real women, better representation of different body shapes on the catwalk have all contributed to having a good impact on women’s mental health.
And then you hear about ‘bra bulge’ surgery – a ridiculous new cosmetic procedure which promises to rid you of that little pouch of flesh that sits between your bra strap and your armpit. *sighs*
According to one cosmetic doctor requests for this particular type of treatment is on the rise.
Called SculpSure, ‘bra bulge’ removal surgery involves using a laser light to heat underlying fat cells, which then leak into the patient’s lymphatics.
The fat particles are then processed in the liver and excreted from the body as waste.
“As women, we are constantly striving to look better,” Dr Galyna Selezneva an aesthetic doctor at the Dr Rita Rakus clinic in Knightsbridge, London told The Sun.
“To lose weight and get rid of that awkward little pocket of fat which despite spending many hours in the gym, just won’t budge, ruining the perfect fit of our clothes.”
Maybe it’s just a hunch, but our guess is that you haven’t spent hours in front of the mirror prodding and poking that bit of fleshy skin and wishing you could have it removed? So news that ‘bra bulge’ surgery is an actual thing is just one more way to heap those unattainable body standards onto women.
Surely having boobs makes that little bulge inevitable and therefore totally natural?
So ladies step away from the long-sleeved tops, stop scrutinising your under-pits and free your bra-bulge!
