Woman threatens to skip sister's wedding over bridesmaid dress row
Wedding and bridesmaid dress fittings are rarely stress free but, for the sake of the bride, we always suck it up and are as supportive as possible.
But one woman clearly didn’t feel the same way after threatening to skip her own sister’s wedding over a dress-fitting row.
Mumsnet user chooselove explained in a post yesterday that she and her sister fell into an argument when it was time to get her and the other bridesmaids’ dresses fitted for her sister’s big day.
She explained that she had recently started a diet, but that progress had been a little slow.
And because she hadn’t lost enough weight, she said she didn’t feel “comfortable” going bridesmaid shopping, and asked her sister to go with the other bridesmaids instead.
Her sister then texted her, asking if she was “wholeheartedly” committed to being her bridesmaid, and things soon escalated.
Chooselove wrote in the post: “I’m heartbroken – had a falling out with my sis.
“She asked me to be a bridesmaid which I was delighted with. She lives on the other side of the country and I have two kids.
“I’ve have travelled to see her dress fittings and am overall super excited for her.
“I started a diet want to look my best for the wedding, I’m a size 12 but would love to be a size 10, (losing weight but finding it a bit slow!)
“Anyway she was putting pressure on going bridesmaid shopping, so I told her I wouldn’t be comfortable at the moment trying on dresses but for her to go ahead with the other bridesmaids and pick the style and colour.
“I could get fitted nearer the date when the shop needed my measurements – she’s getting married in August!
“She wasn’t happy with me so I said to her if she would prefer to find someone else that lived closer and that would be able go to all the bridesmaids shops she had planned, that would be okay with me and I would understand.
“I had a heartfelt conversation with her on the phone and thought everything was fine, that she understood where I was coming from.
“She kept mentioning the word “wholeheartedly” throughout the conversation and afterwards I received a text to ask would I be “wholeheartedly” committed to being her bridesmaid.
“I replied I would prefer if she didn’t keep using the word “wholeheartedly” but I would do what I can.
“She replied ‘just forget about it’.”
A month later, chooselove posted an update to the situation to Mumsnet, and revealed that her sister had chosen someone else in her place.
She explained that her mum had also got involved, accusing her of splitting up the family and demanded that she apologise.
From which chooselove concluded that her family is “toxic”, and that she no longer wants to attend the wedding.
Mumsnet users were not impressed, and have accused the woman of being “childish”.
“You sound really childish,” one posted.
“I understand why she’s stressed about the dress fitting, how it usually works is that everyone gets measured a few months before (like now) and then you go back a couple of weeks before for a final fitting where they sort any weight loss (or gain).
“It all sounds very petty.”
Another said: “I’m with your sister here. You have given her additional unnecessary stress so close to her wedding. I’m not surprised your mum shouted at you.
“You need to apologise to both of them.”
Few commenters have sympathy for the ex-bridesmaid, but do you think she could have a point?
