Woman fines boyfriend £38 if he doesn't come home on time
One woman has caused a stir online after revealing that she charges her boyfriend £38 if he doesn’t come home on time after a night out with friends.
The woman, who is believed to be from the US, took to Reddit to ask for advice, claiming she gave up drinking last year after dealing with alcohol issues, and is annoyed with the ‘double standard’ that her partner has set in their relationship by coming home in the early hours of the morning.
“I feel like an a*****e. But, I don’t know and have to know! So, hear me out,” she started her post.
She went on to explain that she and her boyfriend have been living together for the past two years and when they first moved in, she was still battling alcohol issues.
“Frequently, I’d irresponsibly allow my phone to die while I continued drinking,” she said.
“Initially, I didn’t understand how problematic it was because I wasn’t cheating and I was literally half a block away from our apartment and in the same bar that I went to every each time.”
After her boyfriend repeatedly told her how much he hated her staying out late, she “just sucked it up, stopped staying out late, and stopped drinking.”
Fast-forward a year and her boyfriend now has a new set of friends who he likes to stay out late with.
“I don’t ask who he’s with or what he’s doing before he leaves. I don’t bother him while he’s out. I want him to have his space because humans deserve that,” she continued.
“But, it still bothers me that he’s late only because of the double standard that he’s set in our relationship.”
Now the woman has come up with a plan to fine her partner ($50) £38 if he fails to make it home by 4am.
But the deal didn’t go down too well with people online who were concerned with the ‘games’ the couple were playing in their relationship.
“Sounds like a really strained relationship in the first place,” one person said.
“Instead of getting annoyed with him and charging him for being out late, how about just texting or ringing him?” another person responded.
Others told the woman to have a “grown up conversation” with her partner.
