Willow, Blossom, Fern: The top baby names for Spring have been revealed (and they're beautiful)
When parents are looking for monikers to give their newborns, celebrities, popular culture and TV characters all provide namespo, but so too do seasons. And according to baby name trend experts, new mums and dads are opting for spring-esque names for their babies right now.
Research by Emma’s Diary, has revealed that the trend for giving babies an unusual or unique moniker means parents are looking to flora and fauna for inspiration.
According to the parenting support site, 60% of parents have taken floral inspiration for their daughters’ names, while 40% opted for names themed around trees.
The top three Spring-spo names for girls are Willow, Daisy and Violet, while Primrose, Fern and Blossom also make the top ten.
But while the poll, which quizzed 403 UK based parents about their choice of baby name, shows a nature-based trend for girls’ names for this spring, the survey didn’t seem to reveal a similar trend for boys.
Instead, the monikers that parents are choosing for their newborn boys this spring are much more diverse.
The top three baby names for boys this spring are Owen, Maxwell and Neo, while Denver, Brooke and Skye also make the top 10.
“Interestingly, the results from our poll show that for girls, the seasonal theme of spring has a far greater influence on the baby naming process, than for boys,” Faye Mingo, Marketing Director at Emma’s Diary told The Sun.
“Choosing a name is a big decision for any parent to be but it seems that girls names take the lead in this case when it comes to the changing seasons.”
The parenting support site believes that the trend for floral themed names could be down to celebrity babies, including Willow Smith and Apple Martin.
