Why You Should Never Buy Wine At The Weekend

When Saturday finally comes along, there’s no better time to pop to the shops and buy a bottle of red, surely?

Actually, you’d be better off making your purchases a day or two before, because it turns out that wine tends to be more expensive on Saturdays and Sundays.

Seriously - mobile shopping app Ibotta analysed 50 million receipts from people who’d purchased wine, and noticed that wine really does tend to cost more on weekends.

That’s because the shops know that this is the time we’re most likely to want to buy it. Sneaky, eh?

Don’t worry, though - you can still get your Saturday evening Sauvignon Blanc fix - it’s just better to stock up in advance.

Apparently the best day to buy a bottle of vino is on a Tuesday, because shops are more likely to offer deals on booze.

Doing so could save you an entire 6% on average. While that might not sound like a great deal, if you usually get though the stuff quickly, it all adds up.

The good news is that the research was actually done in the US, so UK supermarkets might not be being quite so crafty.

But why take the risk? We’ll be taking the car down tomorrow to stock up.
