Why Game of Thrones Made Gwendoline Christie 'Question What it Really Meant to Be a Woman'
Game of Thrones is the talk of the nation right now, as series eight airs and draws to a close.
Discussing the hit show in an interview with GQ magazine, Gwendoline Christie, who plays Brienne of Tarth, has admitted that taking on the role made her question exactly what it means to be a woman, and confront questions about gender stereotypes within society.
In the show, her character is a knight, almost exclusively wearing armour and going in to battle.
Standing tall at 6ft 3 she explained, 'this part came along and I knew it would force me to confront my androgyny, my physicality, my height, my strength, my inconsistencies in my face and body.'
'It made me really question what it means to be a woman, how we are defined in society, and how we’re defined in media and mainstream entertainment. It’s been a privilege to play that part. It has been an evolution of self.'
