Collins Dictionary officially declared ‘fake news’ the phrase of 2017 and it was only a matter of time until Donald Trump‘s go-to neologism would inspire the fashion sphere.

Yes, Topshop has introduced a pair of jeans emblazoned with the slogan ‘fake news’.

Unsurprisingly, the jeans haven’t been received well. The high street giant’s latest ‘trending’ item has already fallen victim to Internet trolling:

Others shared their hope that the hefty £45 label is the ‘fake news’ part, as one user tweeted: “I hope the price tag is fake news”.

Oh, and who could resist a cheeky ‘covfefe’ reference?

Yet despite the backlash, the MOTO jeans have already sold out on the UK site (apologies if you were secretly hoping to bag a pair).

Then again, it’s not the first time Trump has inspired a controversial trend
