Toddler has the perfect response to racist worker who told her to pick a different doll
When Brandi and Nick Brenner promised to buy their daughter a present after being potty-trained, they didn’t expect it to turn into an ordeal.
But that’s what the family experience when their toddler, Sophia, picked out a doll on a trip to Target.
As Sophia’s parents prepared to pay for her gift, the cashier noticed that the little girl had chosen a black doll. In an unbelievable display of subtle racism, she began questioning Sophia if she had bought it for a friend and asked her if she wanted to pick another.
When Sophia replied that this was the doll she wanted, the cashier didn’t give up, saying: “But she doesn’t look like you. We have lots of other dolls that look more like you.”
Sophia responded: “Yes, she does. She’s a doctor like I’m a doctor. And I’m a pretty girl and she’s a pretty girl. See her pretty hair? And see her stethoscope?”
The Target employee immediately quietened thanks to the headstrong toddler. Sophia’s parents relayed the tale in a Facebook post that has now gone viral with over 450,000 likes.
“This experience just confirmed my belief that we aren’t born with the idea that colour matters. Skin comes in different colours just like hair and eyes and every shade is beautiful,” her mother, Brandi, commented.
Seems like everyone needs to take a lesson from this child.
