The Duchess of Sussex’s father, Thomas Markle, has spoken out once again in what appears to be another bid to get his daughter’s attention.

The 74-year-old told the Daily Mail in a “nine-hour interview over three days” that he can no longer contact Meghan and hasn’t spoken to her for more than 10 weeks. He said that it was the paparazzi scandal ahead of the royal wedding that caused the rift in their relationship.

He also said that Meghan was apparently upset with him for telling the press that the royal couple will have a baby soon. “But Meghan’s been saying that herself for the past six or seven years, talking about how much she wants a family. Harry’s been saying it too,” Thomas Markle said.

“What’s sad is that sometime in the next year, Meghan and Harry will have a baby and I’ll be a grandfather, and if we’re not speaking I won’t see my grandchild.” He continued, “How tragic is that, to deprive a child of its grandfather because I said a few things critical of the royal family.

“I’m really hurt that she’s cut me off completely,” he said. “I used to have a phone number and text number for her personal aides at the palace, but after I said a few critical words about the royal family changing Meghan, they cut me off.”

He then went on to say that “perhaps it would be easier for Meghan if I died” because “everybody would be filled with sympathy for her.” Thomas Markle, who has a reported history of heart problems, added, “The men in my family rarely live over 80, so I’d be surprised if I had another 10 years. I could die tomorrow.”

Thomas Markle says he hopes he’s able to reconcile with his estranged daughter, saying he’d like nothing more than to speak to her again soon. However, he added, “I refuse to stay quiet. What riles me is Meghan’s sense of superiority. She’d be nothing without me. I made her the duchess she is today,” he told the Daily Mail. “Everything that Meghan is, I made her.”

“She became the woman that she is today thanks to everything I did for her,” Thomas Markle said of his daughter’s upbringing, citing her private school education. “Did I get any recognition for it? Any thanks? She doesn’t even speak to me now. How cold is that?”

Meghan has not spoken publicly about her father since the day before her wedding. “Sadly, my father will not be attending our wedding. I have always cared for my father and hope he can be given the space he needs to focus on his health,” she said via a Kensington Palace statement. “I would like to thank everyone who has offered generous messages of support.”
