This Man’s Prosthetic Arm Doubles As A Tattoo Machine

It’s a steam punk fantasy come true; a prosthetic arm that doubles as a fully functioning totally badass tattoo gun.
JC Sheitan Tenet lost his lower right arm 22 years ago but last week he became the first tattoo artist in the world to tattoo with a bionic arm.
Tenet teamed up with artist and engineer Gonzal (Jean-Louis Gonzalez) to create the prototype. The pair kept crossing paths at various tattoo conventions. Tenet was familiar with Gonzal’s mechanical style sculptures of skulls and eventually quizzed him over whether it would be possible to create something from an old prosthetic he had.
Gonzal was keen to collaborate and set about creating the fantasy limb, fixing a tattoo machine to it and integrating it with pieces of typewriter a manometer and pipes.

Initially the prototype was to be a “kinetic sculpture” but the pair soon realised it could actually be used as an effective tool.
“The needles, griptube, nipple and rubber are disposable,” Tenet shared in a Facebook post. “The rusty, worn and dirty appearance is, of course, fake, it is an artistic choice of painting.”
The arm is light enough to lift with ease and is operated by Tenet using shoulder movements. It’s hoped that in the future the prototype will evolve to incorporate wrist-like and finger movements.
Tenet says cleaning the tattoo machine and prosthetic is a very long and meticulous process and for that reason it’s not yet used as a daily tool.
