This Is What Three Decades Of Sun Damage Does To Skin

Sun exposure is the number once cause of premature skin ageing. Everyone knows that, right? Right?
If not, listen up - wear SPF. Every day. Even in winter. You might not be able to see the effects of sun damage right away but sooner or later dark spots and wrinkles will be messing with your mind.
No amount of cosmetics can turn back time. Trust us, prevention is better than cure. Your skin will thank you later.
Don’t believe us? Take a look at this 69-year-old truck driver. He’s a perfect example of what years of unprotected sun exposure can do to the skin.

Do you see how dramatically one side of his face has aged? That’s because he spent 28 years driving around with the left side of his face exposed to the window whilst the right remained in the shade.
The truck driver was featured in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2012. They said: “Chronic UVA exposure can result in thickening of the epidermis and stratum corneum, as well as destruction of elastic fibres.”
SPFs in face creams and makeup are often not enough to adequately protect from the suns harmful rays - unless your plying on a teaspoons-worth.
As a vitiligo sufferer I’ve done a lot of research into sun protection. Particularly for the face. Having areas of skin with zero pigment means a good SPF is an absolute daily must.
Personally, I recommend Ultra Sun. It’s super light, absorbs quickly, lasts (up to) ten hours and works perfectly under make up. It’s basically made of win.

Just to let you know, I bought this product with my own money. I’m in no way being paid to endorse the brand!
The picture, which did the rounds in 2012, recently made a comeback on the front page of Reddit. We thought it worth the re-share since summer is just round the corner.
