This brilliant babygrow could save your baby’s life

Not knowing what to do if your baby started to choke has to be up there with one of the biggest parenting fears. But despite the concern a recent study by findababysitter.com has revealed that 72% of parents across the UK wouldn’t know how to assist an unconscious child, attend to a burn or scald or administer CPR. Scary stuff.

But a brilliant new collaboration between Tesco and St John’s Ambulance is hoping to change all that by designing a free babygrow containing easy-to-follow instructions which will help teach parents how to give baby CPR.

The launch comes after the charity found that 74% of mums and dads said that their baby not breathing is the first aid emergency they fear the most, while also revealing that of the 2,000 parents surveyed only a quarter knew what to do if their baby actually stopped breathing.

The exclusive babygrows were available earlier this year in Tesco stores, but following huge demand from parents St John's Ambulance have today announced that the babygrows will now be available via sja.org.uk/getagrow for a £3 donation to St John Ambulance.

“We hope the worst will never happen but the babygrow, and our online video, shows parents what to do in a very clear and simple way,” said Sue Killen, CEO of St John Ambulance.

The cute babygrow features a reminder from the nursery rhyme ‘Humpty Dumpty’ of the five puffs and 30 pumps, followed by two puffs and 30 pumps parents need to give their baby if they stop breathing.

There are also clear instructions on the collar of the babygrow and on the tag to help parents remember what to do.

The hope is that parents’ first aid knowledge will increase every time the babygrow is worn, washed or handled.

"We're thrilled by the support we have received for the CPR babygrow. Lots of parents have contacted us to get their own babygrow and we are delighted Tesco has made them available online. These life saving babygrows would be ideal stocking fillers for new parents - but be quick as they are limited edition!" Sue Killen, CEO of St John Ambulance said.
