Third of Britons believe having sex with a robot counts as cheating

In a long-term relationship, but experiencing a strong desire to have sex with a human-like robot?

Bad news – if your partner is among 39% of Brits, they’ll believe you’ve cheated on them.

According to a YouGov poll, more than a third of British people say that if their partner had sex with a robot that looks like a human, they would consider it an affair.

A third – 29% – meanwhile say that they wouldn’t count it as cheating, per se, but that it “would be awkward”, understandably.

Just one in ten people would “be fine with it”, while a remaining 16% (probably baffled by the entire hypothetical scenario) said they’d prefer not to say.

Having sex with a human-like robot may seem like something confined to the universe of Westworld, but it’s closer to reality than you might think.

Sex robots have been around for years – so long that they’re becoming rather sophisticated.

A sex doll manufacturer has created one, for example, that allows customers to pick a chosen personality for it in order to make it seem more like a real woman.

And another company has come under fire for creating a robot that allows its owner to simulate rape.

These robots don’t come cheap, of course, with the former costing almost £12,000 and the latter almost £8,000.

But if such robots came commonplace and one could eventually buy a say, Primark-budget-friendly robot, a partner having sex with one of them might not seem so utterly impossible after all.
