These are the most popular Christmas baby names 2016
The arrival of a new little one at this time of year could be the greatest Christmas present of all.
And you’d guess that a lot of those parents, when it comes to picking names, would go for a festive theme; Ivy, Holly, etc.
But according to pregnancy app Pregnancy+, parents are doing quite the opposite and opting for the same popular names as everyone else – the only Christmassy choices being classic biblical names.
The app asked 3,420 of its UK users expecting a baby between 22 December and 3 January to log their baby name choice.
Some of them did go for a festive option, but many picked from the popular list or from biblical favourites.
“Long-time favourites Oliver and Amelia have been knocked into the number two spot for babies due over the festive season,” said John Miles, co-founder of Health And Parenting – and the developer of the app – told The Huffington Post.
“I suspect that many prospective parents are harking back to biblical times to handpick names that have stood the test of time for their own wonder babies.”
In the list of top 30 Christmas names, nine Bible-inspired boys’ and five girls’ popped up.
Jacob made it to number five, followed by Ethan at 11, Lucas at 14, Isaac at 16, Caleb at 21 and Elijah at 24.
The top biblical girls’ names were those derived from Eve, such as Ava at number one, Evie at five and Eva at 16.
