Theresa May wore *that* controversial red suit on election night

As Theresa May stepped out last night, she was seen wearing a rather unusual choice of outfit.

The current Prime Minister donned the same red skirt suit she wore to meet US President Donald Trump for the very first time.

Why is this an odd choice for the night of the general election?

Earlier this year, May was heavily criticised for being photographed shaking Trump’s hand and commenting that he was “being a gentleman.” It also didn’t help that she was later spotted holding the controversial President’s hand.

At the time, the bright red shade was said to stand for Republican red. Margaret Thatcher wore the same colour for her first meet with Ronald Reagan in 1984.

The power suit is by British designer Amanda Wakeley and has been seen on May several times in the past few years.

Just as with every other key moment, the Prime Minister added a silk scarf worn around her neck.

It’s understandable that she may have chosen a look that she felt comfortable and confident in.

However, for the UK’s most important night of the year, it seems as if she should have gone for a safer (and less controversial) option.

The results of the election showed that the Conservatives are no longer the majority party, resulting in a hung parliament.

May may come to regret her bold fashion choice this morning.
