The Internet Isn’t Happy About This Unusual Baby Name Spelling

In a world of out-there celebrity baby names (we’re looking at you Kimye!) finding a unique moniker for your little one is proving more and more tricky.
So some parents-to-be are choosing to mix-up the spelling of classic names to stand out from the baby name crowd.
But one Australian mum may have taken the tweaking too far. Though the name she’s chosen for her daughter isn’t particularly unusual, the way it’s spelt has guaranteed it won’t top any popular baby names lists any time soon.
An Imgur user shared this snapshot of the mum’s explanation [Photo: Imgur]
Writing in to a baby magazine to explain how she came up with the unique moniker, the mum, known only by her surname, Mavis, explained that her baby girl is called “Kaitlyn,” spelt “KVIIIlyn.” Ok, what?
“I’ve always loved the name Kaitlyn but hated how popular it was,” the mum wrote.
“So when I found out I was having a girl, my husband suggested we replace the ‘ait’ with the Roman numeral symbol for eight! Now our daughter is truly unique.”
When an image of the mum’s magazine quote was posted on Reddit, people were pretty vocal about their thoughts on the unique spelling.

“Kreaytiv spelling at its finest, because every child should be yooneek in every way,” wrote one user. “I think I’ll rename my son MarX. If I were in charge of such things, I would offer all victims recipients of such names the opportunity to change their names for free when they turned 18.”
‘This is a joke right. Who puts Roman numerals in a name. Ah well I guess it’s better than K8lin,’ another said.
And the original poster even posed whether the unusual spelling was tantamount to child abuse?
Accusing parents who choose an unusually spelt name of child abuse is probably taking things a smidgen too far. Besides little KVIIIlyn might think her name is just grVIII
