#TeacherBae: When Will Women Stop Being Criticised For Wearing Clothes?

From TV presenters to meteorologists, 2016 has been the year of people not coping with women wearing clothes. And every other year, for that matter.
And the latest example of this is of a teacher called Patrice Brown, who’s been dubbed #TeacherBae and the “sexiest teacher alive” on the internet.
Brown is an enthusiastic fourth grade teacher for Atlanta Public Schools, but instead of focusing on her teaching skills, the general public has been criticising her choice of clothing.

Her dresses, cardigans and t-shirt-and-jumper combos have been labelled "inappropriate for school”, despite none of them being particularly short or low cut.
And as a result, she’s gone viral, and according to The Telegraph she’s even been forced to make her Instagram account private after gaining more than 122,000 followers.

Brown herself took to Twitter in response a couple of days ago, writing: “I don’t understand why people hate and bash others for doing what they love and work hard for.”
People will pick apart any situation and find a way to hate on it. It’s so sad that’s why nobody can be happy for more than 5 minutes. Smh

As many on social media have pointed out, the only crime that Brown has committed is having a curvy body type.
One Twitter user said: “Black women w/ [sic] curvy bodies are immediately judged and sexualized for something they have no control over.”
Another commented: “This black woman seems so happy & proud of teaching youth but y'all just had to sexualize the situation #teacherbae.”

As many curvier woman will well know, society has harsh rules for fuller female body types, and race plays an important role too. For example, one outfit that’s considered demure on a petite, white woman may be labelled as the opposite for a curvier black woman.

And on the flip side, women of many shapes and sizes have been criticised for not dressing up enough in the workplace. So we’re damned if we do, and damned if we don’t.
Perhaps the only answer is just to disappear altogether.
