A new tattoo trend could spell the end of wedding rings
Wedding rings are out and tattoos are in. Newly married couples are heading straight to get inked in the latest method of proving your commitment.
Beyonce and Jay Z supposedly kickstarted the trend when they wed in 2008, getting Roman numerals inked onto their ring fingers in place of wedding rings.
Now, initials, dates and diamonds have become a common alternative to traditional jewellery with fun cartoon characters also making an appearance.
Some couples have gone even further, choosing a large bicep or back tattoo to permanently show their love.
The wedding tattoo trend comes with the news that we’re spending almost 20% less on engagement rings than a decade ago with the average cost of a ring now at £1080.
Traditionally, engagement ring rules dictated that you spent three months’ salary. 47% of the people that took part in a recent survey admitted to spending less than three weeks’ earnings on the ring.
Weirdly, millennials haven’t embarked on the cutbacks. Young people are actually spending the most on rings, splashing out an average of £1,473 on engagement rings and a whopping £2,827 on wedding rings.
Guess a tattoo’s cheaper, right?
