Strictly's JB Gill reveals behind-the-scenes drama that 'not everybody saw' amid Amy Dowden injury

JLS star JB Gill has had a dramatic time on Strictly Come Dancing, with his professional dance partner Amy Dowden having to withdraw from the competition following an injury last week, leading to JB being paired with a new pro, Lauren Oakley. The new couple then went on to receive a near perfect score of 39 from the judges for their couple’s choice dance to a medley of Bruno Mars on Saturday 2 November, and this week they will be dancing a Samba to Mas Que Nada by Sergio Mendes.

JB appeared on Strictly spin-off It Takes Two on Thursday 7 November to talk about last week’s dance, and he hinted that a lot happened behind the scenes of the show that the audience doesn’t see. He said: “It was the first tens of the series for me and the highest mark of the series, of course, but you know, there's been so much going on over the last couple of weeks. Stuff that not everybody has seen as well, as it does for lots of other couples as well.”

He added: “But when you ride through that and you're able to put on a performance on the Saturday night and get a great score and, of course, get the tens, it's just the icing on the cake.” It Takes Two host Janette Manrara also asked JB about a sweet moment she spotted at the end of his and Lauren’s dance last week.

She said: "Before we talk about your dance on Saturday night, there was a tender moment that caught our eye over the weekend!" and then played a video from Strictly where JB mouthed at the end of the dance “For you Amy! For you Amy!”

Amy appeared on It Takes Two on Wednesday night and broke down in tears when she spoke about having to step down from her dancing role on this series of Strictly. Amy said: "I'm absolutely gutted," and her voice began to wobble as she tried not to cry. "Unfortunately I have an insufficiency stress fracture, which is nothing to do with my injury last year, but it means I need to rest for a couple of weeks."

She explained that JB would continue to dance with "the amazing Lauren" and that she hoped she would be back dancing on the show in some capacity soon, "maybe in a group number by the end of the series, fingers crossed." She went on to stress that the injury to her foot could have happened to anybody and was not related to any previous health scares, such as her cancer treatment.
