Jennifer Lopez enjoyed 'losing herself' in her character while filming Unstoppable

Jennifer Lopez enjoyed "losing herself" in her character Judy Robles while shooting her new biographical drama Unstoppable.

The biographical sports drama tells the real story of wrestling champion Anthony Robles, who was born with one leg, and focuses on his close bond with his mother Judy.

Jennifer and Judy revealed during a Q&A in London on Tuesday night that they talked to each other a lot during prep and these discussions made the star determined to do the real person justice.

"We got to know each other. I wanted her to really feel safe with me in sharing details (about the darkest aspect of their life)," Jennifer said. "It was just a really full beautiful character to play and I really enjoyed kind of losing myself. I didn't want to see me in it, I wanted them to see Judy in it. That was only thanks to the fact that Judy opened up to me and allowed me (in), she gave me great nuggets (to use in my performance)."

The Hustlers actress thought Judy would be a smaller character at first but after meeting the pair, she realised the bond between mother and son was the story's driving force.

"When I saw the finished product, I was very happy, you saw that it was more than what was on the page originally. (I was) very honoured and blessed to be able to play this role," she added.

During the Q&A, Judy thanked Jennifer for allowing her to be vulnerable and own her mistakes and for depicting the love between her and Anthony so accurately.

"I have to give a lot of credit to Jennifer because from the beginning she made it easy to trust her. She allowed me to share these things that I've never shared with anybody else," she praised. "The authenticity that she played in the role is so meaningful to me and my family."

Unstoppable, starring Jharrel Jerome as Anthony, will be released in select cinemas on 6 December and on Prime Video in January.
