Strictly Come Dancing star exits series but fans say the wrong person went

Opera singer Wynne Evans has become the eighth celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing. The star, known for the Go Compare insurance adverts failed to impress the judges with his Charleston routine and was the latest to be voted out. Wynne lasted nine weeks in the competition, but some fans believe there’s another dancer who should have been axed instead, TOWIE’s Pete Wicks.

One fan wrote: “Why the hell does Pete keep avoiding the dance off. He is by a long way the worst dancer left” another agreed and despaired “How is Pete still in ?” Pete was at the bottom of the leaderboard during Blackpool week with a score of 27, while Wynne earned himself 31 points.

In the week that took the contestants to Blackpool, Pete performed to Right Said Fred’s I’m Too Sexy For in tight PVC pink pants. Despite the fans calling the performance ‘iconic’, he failed to impress the judges with Anton Du Beke telling him his Cha Cha was ‘lacking’.

Despite getting the lowest score, it was Wynne and Katya Jones who found themselves in the bottom two opposite Olympian and Gladiators star Montell Douglas and Johannes Radebe. The decision to save Montell, who did a Salsa to Don’t Leave Me This Way by Thelma Houston, was unanimous from the judges. Wynne performed to Carmen Suite No. 1: 5. Les Toreadors by Georges Bizet.

Upon leaving the show, Wynne told presenter Tess Daly: "It's been wonderful, I've got to say. I feel like it's what Strictly is all about. If I can come and do Strictly and last until week nine, then anybody can get out there and dance and have a brilliant time. Strictly is such a brilliant family, such a precious family, that I want everybody here in this room and at home to look after it for the generations to come because it is a wonderful, wonderful thing."

Wynne’s partner Katya said: "To be honest with you, the smile hasn’t left my face since the first day of our training, since the day we got partnered up. You (Wynne) have made this experience so joyous and so full of laughter for me.”

Wynne added: "To have been partnered with Katya has been amazing and coming every Saturday night to hang out with these guys (my other contestants), that’s been wonderful. But to spend every weekday dancing has been just fantastic. I've grown so much and I’m so thankful to have met this person (Katya)."
