Liberty London, Charlotte Tilbury, John Lewis and Clarins; numerous big-name brands are selling beauty advent calendars this year.

The craze, which is almost eclipsing traditional chocolate versions in popularity, is only increasing in vogue with more and more brands jumping on the bandwagon and stocking their own version.

And it’s easy to see why. Liberty London reported that its 2017 edition has already smashed all previous sales records, despite only going on sale today. Over 300 eager shoppers waited outside to get their hands on the £175 advent calendar when doors opened at 8.30am.

Last year, the calendar sold out in three days so this year the buying team created double the quantity to satisfy customers.

An online success story

Before the shop even opened, 33 per minute were being sold at libertylondon.com, marking the most successful morning for online trade in the brand’s history.

Interestingly, men queuing to snap up the calendar outnumbered women two to one, with many stating they were buying the product for partners and loved ones.

Many would balk at the steep price, but loyal Liberty London shoppers clearly aren’t put off. Considering the calendar is stuffed with over £500 worth of sought-after beauty brands including Diptyque, NARS and Votary, it’s actually a bargain.

How do other beauty advent calendars compare?

Liberty London’s version isn’t actually all that damaging to your bank balance, when compared with other leading beauty advent calendars this year.

Jo Malone’s colour-popping countdown will set you back £300, while Harrods costs £250. At £149, John Lewis’ seems a bargain in comparison.

But, fear not, there are more affordable options out there. The Body Shop has three styles with three varying price points to tempt you and M&S’ is only £35 when you spend £35 in store.

Clarins has two options available this year, one for men and one for women, at £60 each and the Cowshed calendar rings in at £90.
