Smoothie recipes to hydrate your skin
Having skin with a good moisture level is essential for younger and healthier looking skin. It keeps skin looking plump, radiant and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. You should, of course, keep your skin moisturised with hydrating serums and creams applied topically, but drinking lots of water and other hydrating liquids is key too. If you find water a bit boring and tasteless, you’ll love these three skin hydration boosting smoothie recipes that you can make easily at home.
The fruit, vegetable and seed ingredients in these smoothies are great skin hydrators on their own, but I’ve also topped these off with a scoop of Opti Beauty Skin Hydration Boosting Powder (£29.99 from Ideal World) – a supplement that improves skin moisture levels; resulting in brighter, firmer and plumper skin. It contains Hyaluronic Acid, which is something that our skin contains naturally. It helps skin to attract and hold on to moisture. Our ability to maintain our skin’s moisture levels naturally depletes with age, so Hyaluronic Acid should be a key ingredient in our diets and skincare. The Opti Beauty powder also contains the natural antioxidant Astaxanthin, which helps improve skin elasticity. Great news too is that this powder is suitable for vegans and is sugar-free, fat-free and salt-free.
Watermelon, Strawberry & Lime
Watermelon has a high water content and helps to keep skin hydrated. Add one cup of chopped watermelon to a blender, with one cup of frozen strawberries, half a squeezed lime and one scoop of Opti Beauty Skin Hydration Boosting Powder. The result is a refreshing juice with pulp that makes a lovely afternoon treat.
Banana, Coconut Water & Flaxseed
Coconut water is a great hydrator, as are the essential fatty acids found in flaxseeds. Cut up one banana and add it to a blender with 250ml coconut water, 1 tablespoon of flaxseeds and one scoop of Opti Beauty Skin Hydration Boosting Powder. The result is a thick, tropical-flavoured smoothie that’s perfect at breakfast-time.
Avocado, Kale & Apple Juice
Avocados contain lots of monounsaturated fats and Vitamin E, so they help your skin to keep moisturised. Kale is also a great skin hydrator. Add one cup of chopped avocado to a blender, with a handful of kale, 250ml of pure unsweetened apple juice and one scoop of Opti Beauty Skin Hydration Boosting Powder. The result is a healthy green smoothie that’s really creamy and delicious.
