Skittles has abandoned its rainbow in honour of Pride Month and people are angry
“Taste the rainbow” is a slogan most of us are familiar with.
As is what’s inside a packet of Skittles; a selection of small round sweets in all colours of the rainbow.
But to celebrate Pride Month, Skittles is ditching its multicoloured ways and making its packets – and sweets – totally white.

The idea being that the only one rainbow matters this Pride.
The flavours will (thankfully) remain, though, so for the time being eating a packet will be a bit of a roulette.
Pride Month or no Pride Month, we can imagine a ‘mystery bag’ style pack will go down well with customers, and many are thrilled at the packet’s release and what it represents…
Brilliant stuff from @Skittles – plain white packaging to give full rainbow focus to #Pride ???? pic.twitter.com/KUbvuvbfcj

But the majority of reactions haven’t been positive.
A large number of Twitter users have suggested the brand are trying to maximise its profits, without actually helping the LGBT community.
i might be less sceptical of the white skittles if they were donating money to LGBT orgs?? but as it is it's just after the pink pound tbh.

White skittles for gay pride, a clever & supportive idea or an annoying marketing ploy? (As you don't know what flavour you're getting)
— Incognito (@Incogni37981052) June 5, 2017
Some even said they found the new packets racist, as the company chose white as a neutral colour rather than another shade.
i'm eating white skittles. idk how this edition is meant to support pride? and why white ????

Yes. I'm one of the people uncomfortable with the Skittles going white.
They're missing the point of pride and white was not a good choice.— Mia ???????????? (@EnterDumbPhrase) May 6, 2017
"All the lentils are white in celebration of Pride." Sooooooo to celebrate equality they make white skittles…. how is that not racist?

Whether they want to chow down on the white skittles or not, other social media users have defended the whited-out packs, saying that they don’t deserve the criticism.
To everyone saying the white skittles are racist-
You sound stupid af. Please stop. It was never about you. #pride— Courtney (@CRPiestrak13) May 6, 2017
Skittles tries to do a nice thing by making a bag of white Skittles for LGBT pride and gets called racist…really? Smh

Above all, regardless of matters of race, equality and Pride Month, Twitter users’ greatest concern seems to be that they won’t be able to skip their least-favourite flavours.
i just realised that by getting the white skittles im gonna have to eat all the lemon and lime ones
— lois (@tbhitslois) May 25, 2017
If you’re not a fan of the lime or orange flavours, there’s no way of telling which ones they are.
The horror.
