Why you shouldn't buy relatives over 50 alcohol for Christmas
What do you buy the person who has everything for Christmas?
We all face the inevitable struggle and when in doubt, alcohol is seemingly always answer. Be it a bottle of Bailey’s or a pricey gift of festive champers.
But this year, health experts are warning against buying friends and relatives over the age of 50 alcohol.
Research conducted by the Drink Wise, Age Well organisation has revealed that that those between the ages of 55 and 65 regularly exceed the recommended units of alcohol a week.
In fact, pensioners in England and Wales now consume more booze than any other age group (yes, even university students).
Baroness Hayter, vice chairwoman of the all-party parliamentary group warned: “At a personal level this may mean replacing the bottle of booze as a Christmas present to our older relatives. If loneliness or lack of company is the most important thing, then give them your company, don’t give them booze.”
