Sex really doesn't last as long as you'd think

Next time your friend boasts about going at it for hours last night, consider this.

According to new research, the average sex session isn’t nearly as long as you might think – in fact, 19 minutes long.

Online sex retailer Lovehoney surveyed 4,400 of its customers and found that for heterosexual couples, this was the golden number.

And you know what? People are fine with that – more than half (52%) were happy with sex lasting that long.

While 23% of men and 15% of women, however, said it wasn’t long enough.

We’re not talking about 19 minutes of actual sex, either – 10 minutes of that time consisted of foreplay, and the remaining nine sex sex.

Perhaps couples should be taking things a bit more slowly, though, as 24% said they wanted sex to last for more than 30 minutes.

Two thirds of couples, meanwhile (66%) said they like it to last at least 15 minutes.

Though due to having busy schedules, many couples have to make do with a ‘quickie’ around a fifth of the time (21%) they have sex – which is perhaps bringing that average down.

So perhaps it’s time we put more effort into fitting sex with our partners into our timetables.
