Serena Williams' PR team 'offers Meghan Markle advice' on how to deal with online trolls
Serena Williams’ PR team is reportedly helping Kensington Palace deal with the online negative abuse, aimed at the Duchess of Sussex.
The tennis champ is said to have been in direct contact with Meghan, offering her support and advice, in the wake of a growing number of cruel comments on social media.
It’s believed that Serena’s team have reached out to royal aides to help them manage the situation.
A source close to Serena reportedly told The Sun: “Meghan is still acclimatising to the royal way of dealing with things – she is very much used to the ruthless Hollywood PR machine.
“She and Serena are extremely close, and Serena effectively offered to lend Meghan her team.
“Her publicist Kelly put a small team together to create a pitch, and have been in touch with the Palace under an official capacity with a few ideas.
“Meghan’s obviously had some horrible trolling, plus people keep speculating about her relationship with Kate, so Serena feels she needs the ‘big guns’ behind her to set the record straight, and shut everything down.”
The reports come after Hello! revealed that Kensington Palace are spending hours each week monitoring their social media accounts to moderate the sexist and racist comments aimed at the Duchess of Cambridge and Duchess of Sussex and their fans.
Serena, 37, and former actress Meghan, 37, are believed to have struck up a friendship at the Super Bowl in 2010.
The Duchess has supported her friend at Wimbledon over the years, cheering her on at the Ladies’ Single Final with sister-in-law Kate last July.
Serena and her Reddit co-founder husband Alexis Ohania attended Meghan and Harry’s wedding on May 19 in Windsor. The tennis champ looked elegant in a pale pink number by Versace for her pal’s special day.
