Sarah Hyland defends on-screen sister Ariel Winter after Instagram users criticise her sheer dress
Sarah Hyland had her co-star Ariel Winter’s back after she was slut-shamed by online trolls about her choice of outfit.
On Monday, the 29-year-old Modern Family star shared a series of photos from the family sitcom’s final wrap party.
One of the images featured Hyland and her on-screen sister Winter posing together in similar-looking black dresses.
Hyland wore a body-skimming, black midi dress with spaghetti straps, while Winter wore an off-the-shoulder black mini dress with sheer cut out panelling on the waist and skirt.
Both looked pretty darned awesome and for the most part people agreed.

But the internet being the internet, some online trolls couldn’t resist sharing their opinions on Winter’s outfit.
The main objection seemed to be that she had more skin on show than Hyland.
“Ariel is beautiful, but that outfit is more for a strip club or surprise for the boyfriend. Come on, girl,” one user wrote.
“A little too revealing on Ariel’s dress. I’m sure every 20something on here loves it but it’s too bikini-like for me. Lacks class. She’s too pretty to settle for that look,” another voiced.

But Hyland was having absolutely none of the shaming, firing back to defend her friend as if they were actual sisters in real life.
We love to see it.
Informing those sharing unkind comments that there was no place for their negativity, Hyland responded: “Everyone that is making a negative comment about my sister can back the f*** up because I WILL NOT tolerate it,” she added.
And Hyland didn’t leave her sister defending there, going on to respond to the positive comments, too, adding fire emojis and agreeing with followers who praised Winter’s look.
When one fan wrote, “What’s up with Ariel Winter’s outfit tho [sic],” the actor replied, “You [mean] that she’s [fire emoji] ?? I KNOW.”
Another fan commented, “Need Ariel’s dress,” to which Hyland responded, “same.”
Trolls, consider yourselves shut down.
It’s okay not to like someone’s outfit, but making them feel bad for choosing to wear it is not. Slut-shaming, or any shaming, is not okay and it needs to stop.
And while we wait for the internet to catch on to its new #bekind self, find yourself a sister who defends you like Sarah Hyland.
