Saint Laurent uses 73-year-old model in latest campaign
For Saint Laurent’s AW18 campaign, creative director Anthony Vaccarello looked no further than the label’s muse, Betty Catroux, for help.
The 73-year-old model has been the source of the Parisian fashion house’s inspiration since the early days, having established a close relationship with the late Yves Saint Laurent.
And in keeping with tradition, Vaccarello never fails to invite the model to sit FROW at his runway shows.
So it comes as no surprise to see the model fronting his latest campaign looking effortlessly chic in a biker jacket (ft. a popped collar) and cool-girl shades. Hands up, who else wants to be her when they grow up?
According to the label, its latest campaign (shot by legendary photographer David Sims) is designed to capture her ‘independent spirit’ and ‘androgynous allure’.
But Saint Laurent isn’t the only fashion house to tap mature models, as 73-year-old Lauren Hutton hit the headlines after donning Calvin Klein lingerie in the label’s SS17 ad.
And with the rise of mature bloggers and Insta influencers (we’re looking at the likes of Linda Rodin and Iris Apfel), it seems the industry is finally celebrating diversity.
