You can now buy an island in the middle of a Norwegian fjord (boathouse included)
It’s safe to say that we’ve never considered moving somewhere completely remote more than we have in 2020.
If you are looking to get away from it all, how about a private island in the middle of a Norwegian fjord?
The 23-acre island can be found in the middle of the country’s Sørfjorden (south fjord) and is being sold for just under £2.5 million.

The lucky buyer will find 30 buildings on the island, including a 20,000-square-foot home, a boathouse, a barn, a football pitch and a playground as well as forests and meadows to meander through.
Called Ulvsnesøy, the island was once home to a school for ‘misbehaving boys’ which earned it the not so welcoming nickname of ‘Devil’s Island’.
The school was closed in 1982 when the island became home to a low-security prison.
The prison was open until last year and the island has now been turned into a fully functioning farm, which recently housed horses, sheep, alpaca, pigs and chickens.

The island is also home to greenhouses for those wanting to grow their own organic food.
For the adventurous among us, there are plenty of hiking trails to explore nearby and places to swim, too.
With 360 degree views of the surrounding fjords and mountains, the island has the potential to be used as a private home or it could be converted into an eco-friendly hotel as well.

The best way to get to the island is by flying into Bergen International Airport - Flesland (BGO), where the island is just a 45-minute drive away. Once there, you’ll also need to take a short boat ride to arrive on the island.
