Prince William is continuing his late mother's efforts to combat homelessness in a first-look clip at his new ITV documentary - however, the heir to the throne admits that he "can't do it on [his] own". The royal, 42, is returning to our screens for Prince William: We Can End Homelessness - a documentary following the first year of his Homewards programme, which aims to end homelessness.

The two-part series features interviews with those currently facing homelessness and those who have experienced it in the past as well as Prince William himself. The heir is following in his mum's footsteps, with Princess Diana - who tragically died in 1997 - having been a patron of youth homelessness charity Centrepoint.

In a teaser clip of the upcoming series, Prince William speaks about his passion to help the cause, explaining: "Everyone having a right to a safe and stable home benefits us all. I come with no other agenda than desperately trying to help people who are in need and I see that as part of my role.

"Why else would I be here if I’m not using this role properly to influence and help people where I can. I like a big challenge, I do like that but I can’t do it on my own."

The Homewards programme aims to provide bespoke solutions to homelessness across six UK locations - Newport, Poole, Bournemouth, Christchurch, Lambeth, Belfast, Aberdeen and Sheffield. The programme hopes to create a framework which can be replicated in other parts of Britain.

Prince William shared a clip of himself in the documentary earlier this month on the Prince and Princess of Wales' X account. In the video, he says: "I think it’s really important that we can try and change, and tackle, the narrative around homelessness. People live with it, we see it every day in our lives, that’s something I want to challenge."

Meanwhile, Prince William's brother-in-law James Middleton recently revealed that the royal has a "cheeky way" of escaping game nights with his wife and her family after finding them "too competitive". Speaking on The Dog podcast, James said that when Prince William began dating Kate Middleton, he would ask if James' dog Ella "needed a walk" as an excuse to leave the table.

"The Middletons are quite competitive and they love a game, don't they? And then you made poor William play, and he found it too competitive and actually used to make excuses," he said.

Prince William: We Can End Homelessness airs 30 and 31 October at 9pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
