Prince Harry to join President Trump and the Queen for lunch during state visit

The Duke of Sussex will join President Donald Trump and the Queen for a private lunch during the state visit next week.

Harry, 34, will meet with the US President on the first day of his three-day visit, following his and his wife Melania Trump’s arrival on Monday 3 June, according to CNN.

The lunch will be held at Buckingham Palace after a Ceremonial Welcome and an inspection of the Guard of Honour.

New father Harry will not be joined by his wife Meghan. The Duchess of Sussex gave birth to their son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor on May 6, and is currently on maternity leave.

Before the US election took place in November 2016, Meghan described Trump as ‘misogynistic’ and ‘divisive’ in a TV interview for The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore.

The Queen and other members of the Royal Family typically remain neutral on political matters.

On the first day of the visit, Her Majesty, 93, will also host a state banquet at Buckingham Palace, which will also be attended by other senior royals.

The Duke of Sussex has continued to carry out at least one engagement per week since the birth. Last week, he played in the Sentebale Polo Cup in Rome, to raise funds to support the charity’s work helping youth affected by HIV/AIDS in southern Africa.

On Wednesday 30 May, Harry will attend the opening match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 at the Oval.

Before the game, the Duke will meet young children aged 8-12 years old, who have been selected as Anthem Children from the Cricket World Cup youth engagement programme.

During his state visit, President Trump will also meet with the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall. One topic that isn’t likely to come up is climate change as Mr Trump and Charles have opposing views.
