Prince Harry and Meghan Markle leave Fraser Island and make their way to Fiji
Words by Sarah Carty.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s whirlwind trip to Fraser Island has come to an end, with the couple snapped making their way to Hervey Bay airport.
Next stop on the loved-up pair’s itinerary is Fiji, where they will be immersed in everything involved in the Fijian culture and heritage.
The 37-year-old Duchess looked relaxed and rested as she held hands with her 34-year-old husband as they were filmed getting off a boat at Hervey Bay.
The pregnant former actress beamed from ear-to-ear, dressed in a pair of Outland Harriet black jeans, a J.Crew Perfect Shirt in Irish Linen and Aquazzura DJ Mules.
She brought the look together with a pair of her now trademark Karen Walker ‘Northern Lights’ black sunglasses.
The couple only stopped once to accept a child’s toy gift of a black and white whale.
Their appearance at the Hervey Bay jetty comes after it was revealed over the weekend that Meghan was taking a break from her royal tour of Australia, as her pregnancy ‘took its toll’.
“She’s resting at home,” ABC News reported Prince Harry telling an inquisitive fan on Sunday, who asked where the Duchess of Sussex was.
Kensington Palace then released a statement, saying the Duchess was taking a well-deserved break and cutting back on her appearances.
“After a busy programme, The Duke and Duchess have decided to cut back The Duchess’s schedule slightly for the next couple of days, ahead of the final week and half of the tour,” a statement from Kensington Palace read, according to the Express.
“The Duke will attend the cycling as scheduled this morning, and The Duchess will join him for this afternoon’s engagements.
The Duchess also pulled out of a string of engagements on Fraser Island, which included meeting with local elders and national park rangers to learn about the Island’s natural beauty, rich history, biodiversity and cultural significance and a visit to the pristine waters of Lake McKenzie.
However, after spending some much-needed time chilling out at the Kingfisher Bay resort on Fraser Island, Meghan reappeared later in the evening to meet with locals at the Kingfisher Bay jetty.
The Duke and Duchess will now travel by charter flight to Fiji’s capital of Suva, where they will embark on a three-day jam-packed programme of appearances.
That includes a reception held by The President of Fiji at Borron House and an official welcome ceremony which will mirror in format that of the one attended by The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh in 1953.
They’ll be treated to dance performances, the presentation of the Tabua, and a Kava ceremony.
