Prince Harry and Meghan Markle celebrate International Women's Day in Birmingham

To mark International Women’s Day, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are in Birmingham to learn more about a project which aims to inspire female students to pursue careers in stereotypically male fields such as science, maths and engineering (Stem topics).

The soon-to-be newlyweds arrived in the city earlier this afternoon and were welcomed by Lord Lieutenant of the West Midlands, John Crabtree, alongside hundreds of well-wishers bearing flags.

After greeting the crowd, the couple headed to Millennium Point for an event hosted by social enterprise, Stemettes, to learn more about the career options available to female secondary students.

Offering advice on everything from A-level choices to apprenticeships, self-proclaimed feminist Meghan had the opportunity to speak with young girls hoping to break gender boundaries in Stem topics.

The pair then headed to Nechells Wellbeing Centre to join Birmingham’s Coach Core apprentices in a training class.

The initiative was originally founded by the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry in order to help people aged between 16 to 24 gain year-long apprenticeships in sport and coaching.

For their latest leg in regional tours, Meghan opted for a £330 wrap-around coat by J. Crew, Alexander Wang cigarette trousers and a £1,160 handbag by Altuzarra.

And as an advocate of the high street, the royal-to-be teamed the look with a cream polo neck by AllSaints (and we’re pleased albeit surprised to announce that it’s still in stock).

The royal engagement comes after news broke that Meghan was baptised by the Archbishop of Canterbury in a secret ceremony on Tuesday evening ahead of the royal nuptials.

The couple will wed on 19th May at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.
