Pregnancy test manufacturers issue urgent recall after 'false positive' results
A number of pregnancy tests have been recalled by a leading manufacturer after it was discovered they were giving out inaccurate results.
The faulty tests have been giving false positive icons, with the potential to lead women to believe they are pregnant when they are not.
More than 58,000 of the abnormal Clear & Simple Digital Pregnancy Tests have been distributed across the UK, it is predicted.
The lot number DM10220170710E has been recalled. Anyone who has purchased a pregnancy test in recent months is advised to check the bottom of the packaging, or the sachet the test comes in, to see if it features this number.
Those who have used an affected pregnancy test are advised to seek alternative testing methods and return their test to the pharmacy or shop they have purchased it from.
As we all know, finding out if you are pregnant – or not – is a huge deal, so make sure you go back and check whether you or someone close to you might have been affected.
Dr Duncan McPherson, MHRA’s Clinical Director of Medical Devices, has advised in a press release: “It is important people check the lot number of any Clear & Simple Digital Pregnancy Tests they have purchased to see if they have a product from an affected lot.
“If you have any questions about using digital pregnancy tests, please speak to your healthcare professional.
“Patient safety is our highest priority. We strongly encourage anyone to report any issues with this product, or more generally with any medical device, to our Yellow Card Scheme.”
