'Is your name WI-FI? Because I’m feeling a connection' took the number one spot.
Sometimes, desperate times call for desperate measures, which is why we’re all a little guilty of using chat-up lines every now and then.
While you probably think the pick-up line has had its hey-day (perhaps its peak was in the 1990s, circa Matt LeBlanc’s character Joey on Friends), it's recently seen a resurgence among Gen Z.
In fact, a recent survey has found that 16 to 29-year-olds are the most likely group to use a cheesy one-liner (24%), followed by just 11% of single 30 to 49-year-olds and 9% of over-50s.

The research from insights agency Perspectus Global that surveyed 2,000 singles found that "Is your name WI-FI, because I’m feeling a connection", was the top cheesy pick up line.
This was followed by "Is your name Google? Cause you’re what I’ve been searching for", and "Are you a parking ticket? Cause you’ve got 'fine' written all over you".

The survey also found that while 36% of pick-up line recipients thought they were cheesy, and 75% said they have never fallen for one, 21% of people said they would love someone they are attracted to to use one on them.

It comes after a 2021 study found the best pick-up lines to use after analysing data from Tinder.
The researchers found that chat-up lines that were either funny or complimentary performed best for women, such as "Do you have any raisins? No? How about a date?", or simply "You have a very nice smile".

However, the study found that these lines had no impact on men. Perceived physical attractiveness from photos on their match’s Tinder profile was the only predictor of long and short-term dating intentions for men.
