More people would prefer to have the 'perfect' body than the 'perfect' face
Q: Would you prefer to have the ‘perfect’ body or the ‘perfect’ face?
While youre answer should obviously be, there’s no such thing as ‘perfect’, if you were to humour us, it’s likely that your response might depend on your gender.
A new survey from YouGov has revealed that the majority of Brits would prefer the perfect body (36%) to the perfect face (31%), and most men would prefer the same (38% body, compared to 26% face).
Women on the other hand were spilt with 35% of the female population choosing the perfect body and the exact same figure opting for the perfect face.
It’s not the first time there has been a gender split when it comes to the topic of perfection.
A recent survey by lingerie brand Bluebella that when it comes to the perceived perfect body type for women, the male and female of the species are very different.
Men, it turns out, are all about the curves, while women hanker after slimmer figures like that of supermodel Elle MacPherson.
The brand gathered the preferences of both genders, creating ‘body beautiful’ composites using the most celebrated physical attributes of a bunch of celebrities.
And while women opted for the boyish hips of actress Emma Watson, men plumped for the fuller curves of model Kelly Brook.
Science has also thrown up some differences in men and women’s perceptions of the perfect face too.
A study led by Kent University’s Dr Chris Solomon asked people to put together a composite of the perfect face with the help of a computer programme normally used to draw up e-fits of wanted criminals.
Dr Solomon, a world expert in facial mapping, revealed that there were some major differences between men and women’s perception of ideal beauty.
“For the male face of beauty, women drew a more feminine face than men – women rate a softer jaw-line, slimmer face, fuller lips and clean-shaven look as the most attractive, compared to the more masculine appearance that is considered the most attractive by men,” he told Daily Mail.
“Interestingly, for the female face of beauty women rated a sexier appearance as the most beautiful than their male counterparts – women perceived fuller lips, a slimmer face, larger eyes and higher cheekbones as the most beautiful, more so than the male population,” he continues.
While it is interesting to note that men and women have different versions of ‘perfection’ and different opinions about whether they’d prefer to have the ‘perfect’ body or the ‘perfect’ face. The truth is that we all have different opinions on beauty and there really is no such thing as ‘perfect’.
