There’s a beautiful picture currently doing the social media rounds and it’s giving us all the feels.
The image is of Gerry, 75, and Darwin, 70, who have been in love for over 20 years, cuddled-up and completely naked. And while, there’s no doubt the image is totally touching, it’s also giving us a schooling about the definition of beauty.
Photographer, Jade Beall, shared the image to social media to announce the launch of a new series on beloveds over 60, which aims to challenge perceptions of beauty, particularly when it comes to ageing.
“I refuse to accept the wide spread (mostly western) human belief system in regards to what is beautiful, especially when it comes to the sacred vessel we call our bodies,” she wrote on Facebook and Instagram.
“Why do we accept to believe that one thing must be more beautiful than another? Why cannot we embrace a million-billion definitions of beautiful?”
Commenting about the photograph Darwin and Gerry admit they both still have body issues. Gerry explains how she uses a cane, is having vision problems and “my breasts reach to my waist” while Darwin confesses to wanting to lose weight.

But judging by the love the image is being shown, the Internet clearly isn’t fussed about their perceived ‘flaws’. Since uploading to social media the picture has been liked over 33K times on Facebook and received thousands of comments claiming the image and message it conveys has moved them.
“Every human has their own beauty. The only people who see ugliness are those threatened by others,” one commentator wrote on Instagram.
“This is great. It’s scary that ageing is looked at as something that needs to be hidden. Sure you can be 50 but why are you not allowed to “look like you’re fifty”???” added another on Instagram
“They look so happy. Even if you didn’t find those bodies beautiful (and they are!) how can you not be moved to tears seeing the love that flows between them?!?,” one woman commented on Facebook.
“Just beautiful! I wish society had not ruin our perception on what beauty is…..thank you for sharing these beautiful photos and your thoughts,” wrote another.
