People Aren’t Happy About Urban Decay’s ‘Self Harm’ Tweet

Unfortunately, things like suicide and self harm have been glamorised plenty of times for the sake of edginess and selling stuff.
And now, Urban Decay is under fire for a recent promotional Tweet that many believe refers to self harm.
The makeup brand tweeted “Ready for some Razor Sharp Swatches, UDers?“ alongside an image of a model’s wrist painted with thin horizontal lines of eyeliner.
So @UrbanDecay decided to name a product Razor Sharp & promote it with this image. Because lol self harm. pic.twitter.com/NzSP2v5hun

The product it was promoting is called Razor Sharp eyeliner.
In response, the internet is not happy, and the message has since been called “distasteful” and “offensive”.
One tweeter said: “If you’re gonna [sic] have a product called Razor Sharp, choose a different way of displaying it.”
i really find it hard to believe that NOBODY at @UrbanDecay didn’t find it wrong to name a product "razor sharp” and then do an arm swatch

Another tweeted: “When I saw those Urban Decay swatches and read the caption my mind did go to self harm. Whether it was intentional or not.
Others, however, have come to Urban Decay’s defence. One person said “As someone who has self harmed I … Think it’s… Really bizarre that people are claiming urban decay is mocking self harm w/ SWATCHES.”
Another said: “I just wanna say that as someone who has dealt with self harm for the majority of my life, the @UrbanDecay eyeliner thing is stupid.”
I 💜 you Urban Decay but this is so distasteful and offensive to those who have/ do self-harm. 😞 I hope you delete it https://t.co/mM6oB1G51l

Urban Decay has since tweeted:
“We swatch on the inner arm to show texture & shades. We didn’t intend to reference self-harm as the product is named Razor Sharp Eyeliner.”
