When Pamela Anderson first went makeup-free at Paris Fashion Week in 2023, social media went wild with praise.

The former Playboy model told Vogue at the time that her reasons for ditching makeup were simple: she wanted to cut down on the time it took to get ready and thought her Vivienne Westwood Fashion Week outfit would be the main focus if she went bare-faced.

But now, Pamela has admitted that her decision wasn't easy at first – and we can totally relate.

Speaking on the Drew Barrymore Show, she shared that it took time to get to a place where she felt 'free' without makeup on. 'I’ve had my little, you know, journey with it, but we all are our own worst critics,' she said.

'When people started coming up to me and talking about it, I thought, "Well, this is a great message", you know? To really peel it back and find out who I was again. I wanted to remember who I was.'

Pamela went on to reveal that it was a relief to let go of the glamorous beauty looks often associated with her iconic roles in Hollywood.

'I found I played characters my whole life. I was painfully shy as a kid – even doing Playboy, for instance, was a huge leap of faith for me,' she said. 'I just thought, well, "This is what my fantasy of what a model is, or a playmate is, or a rock star’s wife is, or what anything is. I’m going to do it the best" and I’ve been playing these characters along the way. It just hit me a couple of years ago... who am I?'

Pamela revealed she took time out in nature to reconnect with her true self. 'This is the best time in my life, I feel so empowered, so free and so excited about life again.'

Pamela hasn't only inspired us to embrace our fresh-faces every once in a while – she's also inspired actor Drew Barrymore. Pamela was appearing on the "Bare Is Beautiful" episode of the Drew Barrymore Show, which saw Drew, in solitary with all her guests and studio audience, take off her own makeup and remove her clipped-in hair extensions on stage.

Pamela appeared on the Drew Barrymore Show to promote her mindful skincare line Sonsie and her new cookbook I Love You: Recipes From The Heart.
