Over half of married Britons regret spending so much on their wedding, research finds
When it comes to throwing weddings, couples in the UK aren’t ones to cut corners, spending almost £20,000 on average on their big day.
So it might not be so shocking to discover that amongst these couples, many regret splashing the cash quite so much.
According to research by www.VoucherCodesPro.co.uk, over half of British couples regret spending so much on their weddings.
Brides believed that floral arrangements and bouquets turned out to be the biggest waste – 27% – while grooms thought it was the cost of the bride’s wedding dress (24%).
While of the 2,412 married Britons that took part, a majority said their wedding day was still the best day of their lives, they decided that how much they spent – £19,870 on average – was too much.
Unsurprisingly, more than a third said it was the biggest expense of their life so far.
Among the 1,192 female participants, decorations came second as the most extravagant spend followed by suits, food and drink, then transport.
And for the 1,220 male participants, more dresses popped up again as the second biggest waste of money – bridemaids’ frocks, in fact, followed by floral arrangements, suits and the reception venue.
When asked if they had to borrow money from a relative the pay for their wedding, 69% said they had to, with the average amount borrowed being £4,970.
