Mum's Twitter thread blaming men for ALL unwanted pregnancies goes viral
A mum has caused controversy online by shutting down an anti-abortion debate arguing that men are always the cause of unplanned pregnancies no matter the circumstances.
Gabrielle Blair, author and mum-of-six was tackling the divisive topic in a series of tweets.
The 44-year-old blogger took to the social media site to explain her views in a lengthy Twitter thread in which she claimed that the onus should be on men to take the lead with contraception as condoms are more readily available and have less side effects than the contraceptive pill.
“I have a good understanding of arguments surrounding abortion, religious and otherwise,” she kicked off the thread. “I’ve been listening to men grandstand about women’s reproductive rights, and I’m convinced men actually have zero interest in stopping abortion. Here’s why…”
I’m a mother of six, and a Mormon. I have a good understanding of arguments surrounding abortion, religious and otherwise. I’ve been listening to men grandstand about women’s reproductive rights, and I’m convinced men actually have zero interest in stopping abortion. Here’s why…

The author who writes a blog called Design Mom went on to argue that while it takes two to tango for intentional pregnancies, for those pregnancies that are unwanted the blame lies with the male of the species.
She went on to explain that men who refuse to wear condoms are putting their sexual pleasure before a woman’s quality of life due to the fact that pregnancy is physically demanding and childbirth dangerous.
“If you want to stop abortion, you need to prevent unwanted pregnancies,” she wrote. “And men are 100% responsible for unwanted pregnancies. No for real, they are.”
“Perhaps you are thinking: IT TAKES TWO! And yes, it does take two for _intentional_ pregnancies.”
“But ALL unwanted pregnancies are caused by the irresponsible ejaculations of men. Period,” she continued.
The mum-of-six went on to point out that while the oral contraceptives women take can also cause a number of negative side effects, such as irregular bleeding, weight gain and mood changes, male contraception on the other hand is readily available.
“Women’s birth control isn’t simple or easy,” she continued. “In contrast, let’s look at birth control for men, meaning condoms. Condoms are readily available at all hours, inexpensive, convenient and don’t require a prescription. They’re effective and work on demand, instantly.”
“Men can keep them stocked up just in case, so they’re always prepared. Amazing. They are so much easier than birth control options for women.”
“‘Oh. I remember. Men don’t love condoms. In fact, men frequently pressure women to have sex without a condom. And it’s not unheard of for men to remove the condom during sex, without the woman’s permission or knowledge. (Pro-tip: That’s assault.)
“So, there are men willing to risk getting a woman pregnant – which means literally risking her life, her health, her social status, her relationships, and her career, so that they can experience a few minutes of slightly more pleasure.”
She ended her thread by explaining her views that women enjoying sex does not equal unwanted pregnancy and abortion. But that men enjoying sex and having irresponsible ejaculations is what causes unwanted pregnancies and abortion.
“Let’s talk more about responsibility. Men often don’t know, and don’t ask, and don’t think to ask, if they’ve caused a pregnancy. They may never think of it, or associate sex with making babies at all. Why? Because there are 0 consequences for men who cause unwanted pregnancies,” she finished her thread.
Since posting the lengthy thread has quickly gone viral, clocking up 184K likes and over 72K retweets.
But while many users took to Twitter to agree with her arguments, others said women are also responsible for knowingly opting to have unprotected sex.
“This is the most comprehensive, reasonable, well-researched, and LOGICAL assembly of ideas written on this subject, like, forever. I’m reposting EVERYWHERE,” one user wrote.

While another user disagreed responding: “Well reasoned? Her reasoning for holding all males responsible for every pregnancy is ridiculous. That’s not to say I’m anti-abortion but her reasoning is remarkably flawed”
