Mum Pens Facebook Post Urging Men To Take More Pictures Of Their Partners With Their Kids

Take a scroll through most mums social media feed and it will likely reveal a whole plethora of family snaps. Of the kids when they’re little, of the kids when they get bigger, of the kids with their dad. But rare is the time mum appears in any of these memory-making piccies, unless of course she’s snapping her own wobbly selfie.
So one new mum has taken it upon herself to remind dads to take more pictures of their other halves. Sharing a candid image that her husband had taken of her and her daughter asleep, Destiny Rogers, 21 wrote an accompanying post to men asking that they “take the photo” whether their partners tell them to or not.
“Dear men…. take the photo…,” she started her post. “It doesn’t matter what she looks like, or if she tells you no, take the photo.”
“You may not think about it often, or at all honestly. But how many photos does she capture of you, of your family and of your life you’ve built. But when she is gone, those photos won’t show your children the woman who was behind the camera.”

Calling on men to capture the moment, no matter what their partner looks like, Destiny reminds those reading that those photos not taken are opportunities missed to document memories.
“Take the photo. Messy hair, no make up or a dirty old t-shirt won’t matter to your children when she is gone someday. What will matter is that you loved what you saw enough to take a photo, to document it, to preserve that moment in time of the woman you love.”
Reminding people that selfies are not quite the same, she continues: “No woman wants to look back at a lifetime of selfies. Do what she does for you every day, and snap a few moments in time.”
“Be proud. Take photos of her. Before kids and after.”

Since uploading, Destiny’s post has been shared more than 130K times and with over 85K reactions it seems the message has struck a chord with other mums who always find themselves behind rather than in front of the camera.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Destiny said that she was inspired to share her photo and post after noticing her husband only had a total of three “raw and real and unstaged” photos of his wife and kids together. She wanted to post one of them online to show others the memory they had made together.
“I hope my husband will take more photos like this,” she said. “Us women take so many photos of our children with their fathers. Men just don’t think to do it unless we ask them to, and then we pose for the photo.”
“I think the best photos are ones that aren’t planned,” she continued. “Ones that are ‘in the moment.”
