Mother of 'unhealthy' Victoria Beckham model speaks out amid backlash
Earlier this week, Victoria Beckham came under fire after sharing an image of one of her eponymous label’s models via Instagram.
To promote her upcoming SS18 line, the designer posted a snap of Giedre Dukauskaite donning a pair of the brand’s seventies-inspired frames.
But the image soon sparked backlash online with many followers taking to the social media platform to criticise the model’s slender appearance.
One fan wrote: “With stories of so many models having eating disorders, this is really disappointing.”
While another commented, “You should be ashamed of yourself VB. You have power and influence in an industry that destroys girls’ images of themselves. And you choose to ignore what is going on in the world. But then again I wouldn’t have expected anything else from you. You’re a disappointment. Fall forward a few years and imagine your daughter looking at images like this.”
And amid the backlash, the 29-year-old’s mother, Irena Dukauskiene, has spoken out.
In an exclusive interview, she stated: “I don’t understand what the brouhaha is all about. It is sheer baloney.”
The model’s mother continued, “Perhaps many of these mums (criticising her) envy my daughter’s success? I last saw her two months ago when she came home. She did not look too skinny to me at all.”
And some of Beckham’s followers agreed as one wrote, “I don’t think it’s right shaming this models body either, no body shaming is ok whatever the persons size. Be kind!”
The fashion designer is yet to comment.
