Mother-in-law demands wedding refund five years later
A young woman has shared her shock after her mother-in-law asked for a refund of her wedding contribution because the bride doesn’t want children.
The bizarre admission was made on a Reddit thread by the aptly named ‘childfreeuser’ and saw the woman explain her mother-in-law’s outrage – more than five years after the wedding.
“My MIL is big into family in the traditional sense,” the woman began.
“She has been pushy with us about having kids since we got married. Literally the week after we got engaged, she started asking.”
However, little did the woman know that both her son and daughter-in-law had no intention of becoming parents and they had a vasectomy and tubal ligation the year after they were married.

But this didn’t deter her advances for grandchildren and eventually sparked a very awkward conversation between the group.
At a recent family barbecue the difference of opinion reached fever-pitch when the mother-in-law told the woman not to drink alcohol in case she could be pregnant.
“I was annoyed by this and said “There’s really no chance,” she explained.
“MIL, all wide-grin, said, ‘Oh come on! It’s time for you two to finally get serious!
“Put down the beer and tell us when we can finally expect you two to finally make your family official!’
She then continued to grill her son and daughter-in-law over when they were having children.
“MIL gets more annoyed and says ‘Well, you won’t be REAL (Lastnames) until you bless us with babies!’” the younger woman recalled.
“After about fifteen minutes of the usual comments, I finally snapped and said ‘MIL, Husband got snipped.

“I had my tubes tied. We’re not having kids. You need to stop bringing it up. Period.'”
The mother-in-law then stormed off in tears before later trying to convince the pair they may later regret their decision.
This disapproval soon had some very real consequences when the mother-in-law demanded a refund on the $400 (£300) she contributed to the couple’s wedding.
“I told her no, that we are tired of her pushing this on us, and then she said…I’d like a refund for what we paid for the wedding,” the woman wrote.
Expectedly, the demand was a divisive one for commenters with one labelling the older couple as ‘definitely manipulative people’.
Another went even further in a bid to see the upside of the situation, writing that “$400 to cut toxic people out is a hell of a deal”.
