An expectant mother in New Jersey was home alone when she went into labour and ended up delivering her baby girl by herself.

Mother of two Melissa Dawson was even more relieved that the birth “maybe took a minute.”

Dawson said that her first daughter’s labour took 43 hours, whereas her second daughter’s birth took a brisk ten minutes from the time her water broke, according to Philadelphia news station WPVI.

On Thursday, Dawson was alone in her Dunellen, New Jersey, home as her husband, Greg, took their two-year-old daughter 20 minutes away to her in-law’s house in order to prepare for their new bundle of joy’s arrival.

After what Dawson describes as three sharp pains, her daughter was on the carpeted floor of her bedroom, WPVI reported.

Her quick-thinking husband, who was on the phone wither her, notified a neighbour and together they were able to get police and paramedics to the scene. The emergency responders busted down the door of the home, as Greg arrived to hold his newborn.

Dawson and her baby were checked out at the hospital and able to go home two days later.

“She’s stronger than I could have ever imagined. This whole experience taught me to love, respect and cherish my wife, so it’s beautiful,” Greg told the outlet.

Melissa and Greg Dawson have named their newborn girl Bria Belle, which means strong beauty.
