This is the moment Bishop Michael Curry knew Harry and Meghan were the 'real deal'
Bishop Michael Curry – who became an Internet sensation after his now-famous sermon at the royal wedding – has shared the moment he knew that Harry and Meghan‘s love was the real deal.
In an interview with US Weekly, the 65-year-old revealed: “I remember thinking after the sermon, once I preached the sermon, I said, ‘These two people love each other.’ They look at each other and their love brought the rest of us together.”
Despite admitting that he didn’t have the opportunity to spend much time with the couple before the wedding, the Bishop knew that the royal nuptials would make history.
“Their love for each other brought two countries together, in Great Britain and the United States. They brought people of different religious perspectives and different religions together,” Curry continued. “They brought people of different political persuasions, people of different sexual orientations, people of different classes, people of different races, people of different nations.”
Over 11.5 million royal fans tuned in to watch the newly-crowned Duke and Duchess of Sussex tie the knot on May 19 but it in a surprising turn of events, it was the Bishop who stole the headlines.
The Chicago-based minister’s 14-minute sermon on the ‘power of love’ left the royal family visibly aghast.
The live broadcast captured Zara Tindall‘s unforgettable open-mouth moment while Prince Charles could be seen hanging his head in a bid to stifle the giggles.

But according to his recent interview, Curry was not aware of the global impact of his sermon until the following day.
“I honestly didn’t know what reaction there was to the sermon for almost 24 hours, because I had gone to a service. I didn’t know the sermon connected. I really didn’t,” the minister admitted.
“I’d say what surprised me, but in a hopeful way, for some reason the message of love resonated, which tells me we all are longing not only to be loved but to actually be people of love.”
